“Marian Sekulov is trying to shift the responsibility for the attempted arson of my company cars and my base onto his former employee – Georgi Kostov, who has worked for him for only two days.”
This is what the victim Emil Peychev commented to a journalist of Iskra.bg after the second hearing of the case in the District Court of Tsarevo was held yesterday. During it, some of the experts who worked on various expert reports were heard. According to Peychev, key experts were not present due to various valid reasons, but this will happen during the next hearing on 3 June:
“Key expert witnesses have spoken, but the one who prepared the DNA forensics on the gloves found at the scene turned out to be on leave and we were unable to hear her. The expert who prepared the fire expert report – likewise.”
“Yesterday, new tasks were assigned, specifically to the expert who prepared the CCTV expert, namely – to establish whether the person in question matched the defendant’s height, build, face and so on, and whether objects – in this case a glove – were seen being removed from his hands. This thing is visible, one has to look very well, given the poor quality, one can see him removing the glove from his hands before lighting the fire”, he further disclosed.
Asked why the quality of the material from the camera was poor, Peychev explained that it had been sprayed with spray beforehand:
“Someone knew about it because the quality is generally crystal clear. It’s an old question about a camera that also shoots at night. Realistically as you walk across the street it lights up immediately.”
According to the gloves expert, 99.9 per cent of the DNA found was the defendant’s, with more to be revealed by the expert on June 3.
Arson at Emil Peychev’s base
Around 00:20 on 22 July 2023, a man entered Emil Peychev’s base in the Industrial Zone of Tsarevo. The same man sprayed the security camera with spray and then doused first one service vehicle with incendiary liquid, subsequently a second and finally threw the tube in the direction of the third vehicle to which a boat was attached. All the cars were doused – this is shown by the swabs taken from them.
The vehicles had bottles of propane-butane, Freon, and if the fire had not extinguished itself within 10 minutes, it would have led to the complete destruction not only of Peychev’s base, but also of the one located next to it.
The accused in the case is Marian Sekulov. Witnesses have named him as the perpetrator because a glove – exactly the kind used at Sekulov’s workplace – was found within reach of the attempted arson. The accused’s DNA was found on it.
For his part, a law enforcement officer stated that he had personally identified him as the perpetrator from the security camera footage.
