On a day when citizens’ expectations were focused on measures against rising food prices, domestic crime and social insecurity, the Bulgarian parliament chose to deal… with itself. Kornelia Ninova, the leader of the Disobedient Bulgaria“ party, posted a scathing statement on Facebook in which she described what happened in the National Assembly as “another shameful day”.

“Instead of a law to cap food surcharges or measures to deal with the rampant beatings, rapes, gangs, murders, MPs with ugly scandals decided how to save their immunities. And they saved them”, she explained.

Who is protecting whom – the people or themselves?

Ninova directs her criticism at both the ruling majority and the new parties in parliament. In her opinion, GERB are „clear“, but surprising is the support from “Revival” and “Greatness” – parties that claim to be an alternative to the „backstage“. Even stronger is her dissatisfaction with the „abstainers“ – the BSP and “There is Such a People” – who, in her opinion, play a double game in front of the media and in the Chamber.

“A lot of hypocrisy. One is afraid of Barcelonagate, another of vote-buying lawsuits, another of…. he knows what for”, Ninova said.

Immunity – asylum or perversion of the law?

The core of the position is clear – “abolish parliamentary immunity by changing the Constitution”. For Ninova, this is the only way to end the practice where “all are equal before the law… but some are more equal than others”.

“Enough privileges! To each according to his deeds!”

Disobedient Bulgaria’s proposal for a constitutional solution aims to nail down accountability, with no room for party chicanery or political self-defense. Immunity, she says, is not an instrument of democracy but a shield for fear.

We publish Kornelia Ninova’s Facebook post without editorial interference:

“Another disgraceful day in Bulgaria’s fake parliament. Instead of a law to cap food surcharges or measures to deal with rampant beatings, rapes, gangs, murders, MPs with ugly scandals decided how to save their immunities. And save them they did.

GERB are clear. They have something to hide behind. It’s a surprise to me that this happened with the votes of „Revival“ and „Greatness“ – supposedly they were an alternative to the deep state and the backroom deal.

And the BSP and “There is Such a People” „abstained“ – that is, come my, come my. In front of the media they announce that there should be no immunity, inside vote back. A lot of hypocrisy. One is scared of Barcelonagate, another of vote buying lawsuits, another of…. he knows what for.

That’s why we at Disobedient Bulgaria have advocated for a change in the Constitution, where it should be anchored: the DEPUTIES DO NOT HAVE IMMUNITY. Then there is no moving. They cannot swear that we are all equal before the law, but some are more equal than others. Enough of privilege and to each according to works.”
