The European Commission (EC) and the European Central Bank (ECB) have published convergence reports giving a positive assessment of Bulgaria’s progress towards eurozone membership.
Both documents explicitly state that our country meets all the criteria. Until now, inflation has been a stumbling block for us, but this problem has now been overcome and, with an inflation rate of 2.7%, Bulgaria is confidently moving towards adopting the single European currency. This will happen on January 1, 2026.
With this positive assessment from the EC and the ECB, Bulgaria will become the 21st member of the eurozone in a few months.
Our country has been in the eurozone waiting room since 2020. The reports emphasize the need to implement policies geared towards macroeconomic stability, as well as further structural reforms.
