According to municipal councillors Mariyan Ivanov and Victoria Varbanova the price of BGN 8 million is unjustifiably high.

The price for the construction of a building for „Tsveta and Anka Varbanova“ retirement home is highly inflated, and the Municipality of Burgas refuses to provide the quantitative-value accounts and investment project.

This was stated at a press conference by municipal councillors Mariyan Ivanov and Victoria Varbanova from „Vazrazhdane“ before tomorrow’s meeting of the local parliament, where the report will be voted. It was submitted by Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, and according to the opposition party, the envisaged amount of nearly BGN 8 million for the construction is „shocking“.

Victoria Varbanova added that talks were held with specialists, according to whom the cost of such a project should not exceed BGN 3 million, given that the most expensive materials are used and everything meets the requirements of the Agency for the Quality of Social Services.

She gave the example of the branch of „Kodzhakafaliyata“school, which will be built in the „Kraymorie“ district, which has almost twice as large built-up area, and the cost of the project there is BGN 6 million.

Mariyan Ivanov added that „Vazrazhdane“ is in no way against building the retirement home, but they have concerns about the amount.

„These concerns are confirmed by the fact that the Municipality of Burgas, in violation of the law on local self-government, does not provide us with the prepared quantitative-value accounts and investment project with strange justifications. I see no difficulty in these documents being made available to us for our perusal.“

He added that from now on the representatives of the party in the local will keep the Municipality of Burgas familiarizing the public with what the funds are spent on when submitting projects.
