“We have shown what leadership is, it is better to take a step back”, said Prime Minister Kiril Petkov on the resignation of Andrei Gyurov as a candidate for director of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB). According to him, personal career should not be placed above the stability of the country. He commented to journalists:

“I thank Andrei Gyurov for resigning. We’d better take a step back. Nothing requires this quick action to have a new BNB governor.

According to Petkov, a unifying candidacy needs to be prepared. The Prime Minister reminded that Lubomir Karimanski was not supported by three parties in the coalition and was not a suitable candidate, because the requirements there are mostly technical professionalism and added:

„When we talk about the highest post in our country, which manages all cash flows, ethics and morals must be of a completely different standard.“

We remind you that Andrey Gyurov withdrew his candidacy for Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank, announcing it on social networks. The MP is adamant that „after the actual split of the ruling coalition over the election of the BNB governor, it became clear that there is currently no broad parliamentary majority to support this election. As chairman of the parliamentary group of „Continuing Change“, I have always put the public interest first, and it currently requires responsible and state thinking and action.
