Not only the physical but also the mental health of the nation must be considered. The people who make these decisions are well-fed people but many Bulgarians are already starving and I say „don’t wait for the moment when hunger will overcome fear“. Then the consequences can be unpredictable. Mental health measures must be taken. Extreme measures must be taken and they are already late – no hungry people. Because the hungry man will go out.

This was stated to journalists by President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev who visited Pirogov Hospital in Sofia. He urged society to continue to follow discipline and strictly follow the instructions of the authorities, but added that there should be a clear management of the crisis.

„There will be a virus after May 13, will we still be in this situation? We need to think of a clear strategy for how we manage to get out of this state as quickly as possible”.

According to the Head of State, MPs and ministers should donate their salaries.

„Unlike MPs and ministers who intend to pay their salaries towards the end of the state of emergency, I did so in the beginning. Half a month ago I gave myself the salary of the elderly from Vidin. Honorable Members of Parliament, for me donation is a personal act, but if you want to be very equal to the President, as I understand your statements, there is an easy solution – going back and forth to March! Now collect the March salaries, as I did.“

Radev also answered in absentia to Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, who said that if he vetoed the state of emergency, he would remove GERB from parliament:

„The prime minister must familiarize himself with the constitution and the laws and read where the president can veto – no decisions can be vetoed by the National Assembly … Goethe said it best – there is nothing more scary than active nonsense.“

The Head of State praised the established organization in Pirogov, noting that much has been achieved with the help of donors, „but it is high time that the state intervened more decisively organizational and material.“
