„I am convinced that you are aware of the enormous responsibility that rests on you. This year we held 3 elections for the National Assembly and as a result for the third time I am handing over the first term to various representatives of political parties. This is an important warning that the trust of Bulgarian citizens is not given for free and must be maintained at all times. You know that the two caretaker governments, which I did not mean by virtue of the Bulgarian Constitution, stabilized the country. They have clearly shown that there can be action by people with different political views, they have created a good basis for effective governance focused on people’s problems. You know this very well and you know that effective governance in the form of a coalition can only exist if there is mutual respect between the partners. The time of the sole prime minister is over and the hope for its restoration was categorically rejected by the Bulgarian citizens during the elections. The Presidential Institution is open to dialogue and cooperation with a future government within its competences and powers. It is important for Bulgarian citizens to know your priorities, your readiness to form an effective governing coalition. This is the meaning of today’s meeting. I will be grateful to you for expressing your views on the enlargement of the European Union, the assertion of the rights of Bulgarian citizens, our identity, history and culture.“

This is what President Rumen Radev told the representatives of „We Continue the Change“ at the beginning of his consultations with them. The meeting between the Head of State and the representatives of the political force started at 09:00h.

What happened on election night is a huge responsibility, we realize that Bulgaria already has an urgent need to have a regular government that fully protects the Bulgarian interest, to solve urgent and urgent problems that can be solved by a government with a full mandate and a working parliament.“, said for his part the leader of „We Continue the Change“ Kiril Petkov.

We remind you that this is the third consultation of the President this year in an attempt to form a regular government, after the formation of a regular cabinet after the parliamentary elections on April 4 and July 11.

After the third parliamentary elections this year, held on November 14, together with the presidential elections, potential participants in the government – „We Continue the Change“, „BSP for Bulgaria“, „There Is Such a People“ and „Democratic Bulgaria“ declared readiness to form a government. Even before the constitution of the newly elected 47th National Assembly, they held a series of talks in 18 public discussions on sectoral policies in order to sign a coalition agreement.

According to the constitution, the President, in consultation with parliamentary groups, hands over the Prime Minister’s exploratory mandate to the prime ministerial candidate nominated by the largest parliamentary group, which has seven days to nominate a cabinet.
