The Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) issued an official statement regarding the action of the „Vazrazhdane“ party, which took place this morning at the institution’s building. According to the BNB, at 10:30 a.m., there was an attempt for a political action at the bank’s headquarters by representatives of „Vazrazhdane“. The statement emphasizes that Bulgarian legislation and European law do not allow such actions within the building of the Central Bank.
The BNB’s position clearly states that the institution is independent and firmly condemns any attempt of political interference in its operations. According to the bank, such actions are not only unacceptable from a legal point of view, but also violate the institutional order in the country. The BNB stressed that the place for political disputes is the National Assembly, where debates on all issues of public importance should be held.
The Bulgarian National Bank called on the Parliament and other competent state authorities to support the independence of the institution and ensure that it will continue to carry out its mandate without political pressure.
The BNB pointed out that compliance with the law and institutional independence are fundamental principles for the functioning of the banking system and the financial stability our country.
