President Rumen Radev made his first comment to journalists on the occasion of the one-day visit of his Ukrainian colleague to our country. He pointed out:

“When a prime minister decides to invite a president, the institutional dialogue requires that at least this be agreed with me before that invitation, and not that I be notified of steps already taken.”

The head of state pointed out that the easiest thing in such a situation is not to hold a meeting, but according to him, this is not a good signal for our country and for 300,000 Bulgarians in Ukraine. He hopes that the Council of Ministers will follow the rules in the protocol and that similar events will be coordinated with him in the future. The President emphasized that he has always protected the interests of Bulgaria, not those of other countries. According to him, the question is whose intebrests are protected by the politicians in the government and parliament.

And he gave an example: “Maybe you remember that in October 2022, one of the presidents from Eastern Europe sent a draft declaration of immediate support for Ukraine’s membership in NATO to all presidents. Then I refused to sign this declaration with a clear motive – the admission of Ukraine to NATO before the establishment of peace means a war against Russia.”
