Judicial guards and guards from the Security Union came out today for the first day of their planned one-week protests. Their intention is to gather in front of the courtrooms by August 28 to express their dissatisfaction with the unfulfilled promises of the Minister of Justice.

A meeting in front of the Court House in Burgas was held at 07:30 a.m. this morning. The reason for their release was the non-fulfillment of commitments made by Minister Kirilov.

Prison officials have been on alert since the beginning of the month, after Kirilov promised them that prison staffs would increase by at least 200 from the beginning of September. The need for more prison officials was evident from last year’s dormitory escapes, the many hours of overtime worked by staff and the overcrowding of the country’s major prisons.

The 200 units were expected to be included in the two staff establishment schedules in order to announce competitions, but the protests show another violation of the cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Justice.
