A scenario has been set for the closure of the coal-fired power plants. The possible years for this are 2038 or 2040. A specific date should be set by the 47th Parliament, which will decide on the basis of a technical analysis. This was said by caretaker Prime Minister Stefan Yanev in connection with the Recovery and Sustainability Plan adopted by the government today.

If it depends on us, Yanev said, quoted by „BNR“, we prefer this to happen after the 40th year, but the direction in which we will go is yet to become clear. But let’s not „play with dates and scare people„.

Those working in the sector need to be aware what will happen in the future. They need to know what is coming up in their professional development and it is more than advisable at such moments not to „give the impression that we are hiding something from them and creating unpredictability with three, or five, eight dates„.

The caretaker Prime Minister explained that a state-owned enterprise is planned to manage the transition in the coal regions. It will employ laid-off workers from the „Maritsa Iztok“ complex, who will deal with land reclamation.

For his part, Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Pekanov reminded that 46 reforms under the plan are to be implemented and 59 projects to be financed. The state should receive BGN 12.9 million. This will lead to investments worth BGN 8.1 billion and within 6 years the effect on the domestic economy will amount to BGN 21 billion.

Stefan Yanev believes that a lot has been done during the 5-month active work and the cabinet hopes that after the discussion and adoption of the Plan it will start the detailed talks.

After all the negotiations, the movement of „fresh money“ to the business in our country should start. Projects will also be launched, which will undoubtedly have an element of economic recovery in Bulgaria.
