„The government considers a new bill for easing of the lockdown measures in the country,” announced the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov. According to the PM’s statement the new bill would consist solely of health recommendations and would revoke the emergency state in Bulgaria. The bill could pass before May 13.

PM Borisv highlighted that the restriction measures in the country were among the more liberal ones and aligned with the World Health Organisation’s recommendations.

He also stressed that Bulgaria has among the lowest levels of COVID-19 in Europe:

“According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control Bulgaria has the lowest number of COVID-19 patients per 100 000 people and has the third lowest number of coronavirus related deaths after Slovakia and Latvia. This is an objective and clear indicator for the effectiveness of the governmental response to the crisis.”

Iskra.bg reminds that due to the ongoing nationwide lockdown the traditional celebrations on 6 May will not take place. Military schools across the country will still honor the tradition by organising military marches.

Head of the Bulgarian Operations Headquarters Gen. Ventsislav Mutafchiyski commented that the traditional military parade will not take place because of obvious reasons. The organisation of such events, incl. the event itself, requires the gathering of large groups of people across the country which would increase the risks of virus spreading.
