The President of the Civic Platform „Stand Up.BG“ Maya Manolova condemned the sharp decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) № 1961-NA of January 27, 2021, which hinders the appearance of elections of formations such as „Stand Up.BG“, Democratic Bulgaria, the Poison trio, etc., because they are not parties.

According to the CEC decision, the coalitions that will run in the parliamentary elections must bear the name of one of the parties in the coalition. This contradicts Article 128 of the Electoral Code, which allows coalitions to have a different name from that of the parties in it, Manolova said. So far, the United Patriots, Democratic Bulgaria and others have registered in this way.

The decision automatically applies text concerning local coalitions and relies on this to go unnoticed by formations outside the status quo, she said.

According to Manolova, the amendment is being made precisely so that it is not possible for „Stand Up.BG“ to be the name of the coalition for the ballot.

The decision was voted unanimously by the representatives of GERB, BSP, DPS and the „patriots“ in order to stop – through engineering games – political opponents such as „Stand Up.BG“, the Trio and DB, Manolova commented on the scandalous decision.

The decision is being appealed today by all parties in the network of „Stand Up.BG“, Movement 21 and others. Pursuant to Art. 58 of the Electoral Code, the deadline for appeal is January 30 at 9:13 pm through the CEC to the Supreme Administrative Court.
