People’s representatives from the BSP broadcast live on the social network Facebook the classified session of the parliament today. It discusses what weapons Bulgaria should send to Ukraine. A decision on this was taken again by the parliament, but the socialists were strongly against it.
The meeting of the National Assembly was chaired by Rosen Zhelyazkov from GERB. He repeatedly warned the BSP MPs not to broadcast the discussion, but they claimed that they were just holding their phones. In effect, through their actions, they disclosed classified information.
After all, after these actions of theirs, the session of the parliament became public again.
The BSP gave a briefing in the National Assembly, at which the leader Cornelia Ninova categorically announced that the provision of arms to Ukraine is a risk of involving Bulgaria as a country in the war. That is why they insisted on an open meeting, so that the Bulgarian people could understand everything, and the President Rumen Radev, who is also the commander-in-chief of the Bulgarian Army, and the Minister of Defense went to the parliament.
„What has been happening since morning in the parliament is absolutely unprecedented and scandalous. Without a decision of the presiding council, without discussion at all, we understand in the hall that the speaker of the parliament introduces an extraordinary item – a vote on the report of the minister of defense and a contract for the provision of arms to Ukraine.“
This was announced by BSP leader Kornelia Ninova at the briefing in the National Assembly of Bulgaria. According to her, this is hardly the most important decision that the National Assembly has to make now.
„Because of this decision, many more important points for the Bulgarian people were dropped, such as income, voting for free textbooks, budget laws, tax laws,“ she pointed out and added:
„All of the colleagues swear that the most important thing for Bulgaria now is to adopt the budget and laws under the Recovery and Sustainability Plan. But they do the exact opposite. A perfect example of political hypocrisy.”
Ninova pointed out that the „war coalition“ that supports this decision stood out – GERB, DPS, „Democratic Bulgaria“, „We continue the change“ and „Bulgarian Rise“.
„We continue the change“ blew up the world during the vote on the Electoral Code with the claim that an opaque decision was made, in dark times, that this law was not the most important, and today they demonstrate the exact opposite. Late last night, decisions were made by the committees – external and defense. No deadlines have passed, and there are no reports to review. However, an emergency point is included,“ Ninova stated indignantly and essentially defined this issue as a threat to Bulgaria for taking sides in the war.
„We want peace and a diplomatic solution to the issue,“ she clarified.
For the BSP leader, it is shocking that the meeting was closed.
„The Ukrainian side has publicly announced what it wants. The Minister of Defense replied that he was giving weapons on this list. The whole world announces what weapons it gives to Ukraine – and all European countries, and the USA – what they give and how much it costs. What makes this a closed meeting in Bulgaria? One thing only – that the Bulgarian people do not understand what they are doing. This is a solution in the dark, in dark times, hidden,“ she revealed.
The BSP insists on several things, and the leader of the left indicated what they are:
„First, the meeting should be opened. The Secretary of Defense to declassify the list of weapons we provide. What is being discussed should not be hidden from the Bulgarian people and it should be known very clearly who is taking what side on this issue.“
„Secondly, we called on the president, as commander-in-chief, to come and attend this meeting. He spoke out against this decision, even called „Democratic Bulgaria“ warmongers, asked them if they would go to the front. Why is his government doing this today?” Ninova asked.
„We are categorically against both procedural issues and the substance of solving the issue. The provision of weapons is a risk of involving Bulgaria as a country in the war“, concluded the BSP leader.
