The State Agency for National Security assumes that more employees of the Russian embassy in Bulgaria will be declared „persona non grata“. This became clear from the words of the chairman of the institution Plamen Tonchev.

He gave a briefing in connection with the ongoing pre-trial espionage proceedings, which are investigating three people. Two of them are employees of the State Agency for National Security, and one works in a ministry. It is not yet clear what it is, but it is not internal.

Tonchev also revealed that the employees of the State Agency for National Security, which are subject to inspection, have been removed. In addition, measures have been taken to prevent access to the building of the State Agency for National Security.

The employees in question are at middle management level. They were heads of sectors and departments in the Agency, respectively, which, according to Tonchev, does not diminish their guilt.

Both have worked for the National Security Agency for more than five years. A procedure was initiated to deprive them of access to classified information.

The development itself was done by the Agency’s Internal Security Department. It lasted a long time, so they were convinced that there was enough evidence to be referred to the Prosecutor’s Office. The Prime Minister Kiril Petkov was also informed about the operation in due time.
