The Minister of Interior Boyko Rashkov has filed a signal to the head of the National Investigation Service regarding Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev. He announced this himself during an award ceremony for heads of regional directorates, DarikNews reported. Rashkov wants an investigation into the way the Prosecutor’s Office has published materials gathered by special intelligence tools. In addition, he said, they edited conversations between different people. Meanwhile, the State Prosecutor’s Office announced that this signal was within the competence of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office and it was therefore referred to them.
Rashkov clarified that earlier today he sent to the National Investigation Service some of the materials that Minister of Justice Yanaki Stoilov had submitted to the Supreme Judicial Council. According to him, these are materials that the SJC has practically refused to consider on the merits. Rashkov stressed that the case concerns the illegal and unlawful publication of materials collected with special intelligence tools, as well as other data on the investigation of specific cases.
The Minister of the Interior expressed hope that the Investigative Service would start an investigation into these cases, because in his opinion there are enough quality investigators there. The purpose is to answer the question whether it can be claimed that Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev has committed a crime. If it is considered that he has not committed this act, to present to the public the reasons for such an opinion.
Rashkov also said it would become clear whether a prosecutor would be found to show the courage to launch an investigation against prosecutor number one. This way it will be understood whether he is really untouchable.
The National Investigation Service announced that they could not initiate pre-trial proceedings because this was the sole responsibility of the prosecutors.
