President Rumen Radev is adamant that the local elections should not be used as a new attack on the State Agency for National Security (SANS) „until the plan of the records is implemented.“ He told journalists that Plamen Tonchev’s resignation was demanded not because he had broken the law, but because he had respected it.
The Head of State said that he would get acquainted with the Prime Minister’s motives for requesting Tonchev’s resignation, adding that the SANS Law said what he could be dismissed for and there was no motive – lack of confidence on the part of the Prime Minister. In his words, according to Denkov’s reasoning, he should have resigned as well because the public did not trust him.
„They don’t trust each other in the assembly, but they have a tight grip,“, Radev said, pointing out that there were worrying statements from the Prime Minister during his briefing, when he demanded Tonchev’s resignation.
The President also commented on the election results, saying the citizens had turned their backs on the vote. Every new mayor comes with the expectation of better, the President pointed out.
