Borisov’s failed government cannot lead any constitutional debates, continue to govern and determine the country’s future. It is cynical for a government that has trampled on the Constitution to now have the ambition to give Bulgarian citizens a new one.

This was stated to journalists by President Rumen Radev. According to him, this government has ended morally and it is important that it ends formally as soon as possible. Everything else was agony, a waste of historical time and further inciting the wrath of the people, the press center of the department reported.

The head of state appealed to the deputies not to vote for an expert cabinet until the resignation of the cabinet is submitted, which he said was inevitable.

An expert cabinet will be a deception to the expectations of Bulgarians. We must not allow it, because again the regime of the Prime Minister will organize the elections, and that means to guarantee his lifelong government.

The president added that the people were protesting and demanding the resignation of the government in order to end the regime of the prime minister, and not to cement this regime behind some expert cabinet, which will be nothing but a „puppet“.

“The MPs under the Constitution express the will of the people and should comply with this will, and it is clear – immediate resignations, caretaker government, fair elections and new confidence”, the head of state added.

According to the president, despite their various political beliefs and provocations, Bulgarians are determined to remove power, which has become a symbol of corruption, stagnation and wasted opportunities for the country.

“These relentless protests are the real public vote of no confidence in the government”, Rumen Radev said, noting that for the first time our compatriots abroad are extremely consolidated and this was indicative of their attitude towards the government.

On a question for comment on the government’s proposed changes to the Electoral Code, the president said these were brazen attempts to ensure the prime minister’s lifelong rule and should definitely not be taken as such.

Machine voting must be categorically guaranteed, and the desire of the people, the demand of millions of our compatriots abroad for remote electronic voting, cannot be lightly erased.

The head of state announced that he has a draft of amendments to the Constitution ready, but will not allow himself to be involved in this debate, adding that he will initiate it as soon as the resignations of the prime minister and the chief prosecutor are submitted.

The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces visited the Georgi S. Rakovski Military Academy, where he opened the new school year at the oldest military school in Bulgaria.
