The Bulgarian Supreme Administrative Court gave green light to the new concession contract of Airport Sofia which is expected to get finalized by mid-July, announced Minister of Transport Rosen Zhelyazkov during the emergency parliament meeting from today, reported by the local media outlet “Dnes.bg”.

The top bidder for the contract is the German airport operator “Airport Munich”. According to minister Zhelyazkov, the Germans have made a well-balanced and fair offer taking into account the expected surge in tourists and general traffic in the period after the pandemic.

Among the other bidders was a global leader in airport management with a 1% share in “Strabag  Austria”.

Minister Zhelyazhkov said that the competition was fierce and has resulted in many good offers. After signing the contract, “Airport Munich” will be obligated expected to make a payment of 550 million Bulgarian levs excl. VAT

Zhelyazhkov added that all debts of the Bulgarian railroads have been settled and future profits are expected. In regards to the railroads, PM Boyko Borisov commented:

“New trains and locomotives should be provided as soon as possible in order to build up the contemporary image of the Bulgarian railroads. Only then people would finally have the option of ditching the car and taking a three-hour train ride to Burgas. We are thoroughly reinventing the railroads with aid conditioning, Wi-Fi, and a clean and pleasant overall experience. We need new trains and locomotive right away to support these efforts”

According to Borisov the issue with the old trains should be tackled right away and without any delay.
