“We are in the middle of intensive talks for resuming charter flights to Bulgaria as of June 15,” announced in an interview for the Bulgarian national television “NOVA” Minister of Tourism Nikolina Angelkova. The talks are held between countries in similar epidemic situation.

Angelkova announced during a meeting with the mayors of Varna and Burgas from last week that there are no plans to cancel charter flights after June 15 and that international tourists will be admitted to the country. This means that the summer season in the country can begin on July 1

Angelkova stressed that domestic tourism will remain key for the local economy throughout the season. She said that the low levels of coronavirus spread in the country could serve as a selling point for the local tourism.

According to the agreement with the countries of Greece and Serbia from yesterday, incoming tourists will not be subjected to self-isolation. Angelkova added that Bulgaria initiated the talks with the neighboring countries.

Bulgaria has suggested inbound tourists to sign a declaration stating that they are familiar with the related health risks and will comply with the safety procedures for preventing the spread of the disease. According to the suggestion, travelers would have to provide address of residence and declare that are in good general health.

In regard to the protests of logistics companies, she commented that the government has already initiated talks. Minister of Transport Rosen Zhelyazkov announced yesterday that Bulgarian truck drivers will not be subjected to self-isolation upon returning to the country.
