The government has approved a strategy for public debt management for the period from 2022 to 2024, Prime Minister Kiril Petkov told reporters after a meeting of the Council of Ministers. He commented:

A new debt of 7.293 billion was approved for 2022, but 3 billion of those seven are actually old debt that is expiring and needs to be refinanced. Actually, the new debt being issued is 4 billion. This needs to be said clearly so as not to speculate.“

The Prime Minister clarified that the deficit of 4.1% of GDP with the government’s investment program amounted to 5.5% of gross domestic product. According to him, if it is not realized, then the budget is in surplus. Petkov stressed that a working group has been formed between the ministries of finance and energy due to the problems of the municipalities with the high electricity prices. He explained:

We will want to see the extent of the financial problems of municipalities that cannot pay for these services. In each such municipality, we will send an PFIA inspection to make sure that the lack of funds is not a function of non-transparent public procurement.“

According to the Prime Minister, the actions of the Minister of Health Asena Serbezova after the incident in Vratsa were adequate. He is adamant that all the conclusions in the case will serve as an example to avoid similar ones in the future.

Regarding the accusations of GERB – UDF for secret talks between Kiril Petkov and „Vazrazhdane“party for the cancellation of the „Green Certificate“, he replied:

Right after the protest, I announced that we were opening a working group. Yesterday in the conversation with „Vazrazhdane“ we specified when this group will start working. No commitments have been made by anyone.“
