We are witnessing an attempt to shift the responsibility for the impossible realization of the first mandate to „Democratic Bulgaria“. Hristo Ivanov gave such an assessment in an interview regarding the latest comments from representatives of GERB. According to him, they are looking for an alibi for the upcoming assembly of the same power structure that elected Vezhdi Rashidov as the Speaker of the Parliament. The leader of „Yes, Bulgaria“ considers the governing majority of the so-called „paper coalition“ as a retrograde option that would set the country back.

“A government with DPS may be very attractive to many people in GERB, because it means uncontrolled consumption of power. However, the price for the country and the participants would be very high”, Ivanov said.

The co-chairman of the Democratic Bulgaria believes that without the unification, it would not be possible to form a cabinet of bold reforms that would move Bulgaria forward. No matter how difficult and uncomfortable it is, we should look for a chance to manage with the second term of „We continue the change“ because of the important tasks and priorities before Bulgaria.

„Entering the Eurozone and Schengen, rearming the Bulgarian army, bold steps in the energy sector and judicial reform are extremely high priority things. If we don’t do them now, we will miss many important historical windows“, said Ivanov.

He expressed satisfaction that the partners of „We continue the change“ are also making announcements in this direction, despite the awareness of the possible risks.

Hristo Ivanov again emphasized that it is precisely the decisive changes in justice that are the cure for systemic corruption in Bulgaria and a way out of the ongoing political crisis. Those seeking support and legitimization from „Democratic Bulgaria“ should be aware of the need for an independent judiciary to judge which practices and organizations are mafia and which are not.

“GERB has been ignoring the justice reform for months and continues to play a deaf game on the subject”, added the national representative. According to him, his colleagues from Boyko Borisov’s party demonstrate a total refusal to talk about the problems of their twelve-year rule, which produced systemic corruption and a vicious model with deep roots since the communist regime. However, he expressed hope that despite the divergent comments, some people in GERB hear his message, understand the situation and can prevail over the advocates of DPS management.

“I’m already beginning to wonder how there can be elections in Bulgaria at all”, commented Ivanov regarding the changes in the Electoral Code and the return of paper ballots. According to him, the debate on the topic has turned into an insane argument, in which absolutely irresponsible and untrue things are heard. This destroys not just the trust in the election machines, but the overall trust in modern technologies and their application in the e-governance of Bulgaria. Ivanov concluded:

“When you turn the concepts of „memory“ or „code“ into a conspiracy theory, you destroy the possibility of a person buying something or using some public service online.”
