On the first day of school, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov promised teachers that their salaries would increase by more than 15% in the new year. With this, the government would continue its policy aimed at doubling the salaries of teachers for the past 4-year term.

The request for these increases was made by the Prime Minister in a post on his personal Facebook profile. The address of the Prime Minister is on the occasion of the beginning of the new school year. Apart from the teachers, Borissov also sent wishes to the students and their parents.

In his address, the Prime Minister noted the dignified way in which the Bulgarian education system copes with the unusual epidemic situation.

The Prime Minister expressed his confidence that the year will be successful. To this end, however, he called on everyone to be careful and follow the recommendations of experts.

Borissov added:

“They are important and should not be overlooked. The virus is still among us, the cases in the world are not decreasing”.

The Prime Minister justified the increase in teachers’ salaries with the words:

Teachers deserve even more and we will not stop making efforts in this direction. I am convinced that the greatest guarantee for Bulgaria’s long-term prosperity is education and investment in it!
