„Democratic Bulgaria“ is ready to take on the responsibility of appointing a regular cabinet that can solve 5 national tasks. It will be technical and will not resolve political divisions, but will put the national interest on hold, party co-chairman Hristo Ivanov revealed, specifying that these are:

  • Schengen entry;
  • entry into the Eurozone;
  • implementation of judicial reform;
  • implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan;
  • modernization of the army.

In the event that we go to early elections, we will question the solving of these tasks, especially the membership in the Eurozone, warned Hristov. He stated:

„We can play the role of the bridge. We are not talking about coalition, coalition means joint governance. We will not overcome the differences, we will not like each other, we will show whether we can leave them in parentheses, and in front of parentheses, remove these great national tasks.“

He announced the readiness of Democratic Bulgaria to stand in the middle of this battleground, which is Bulgarian politics and where everyone blames the other with whatever and to take the role of the mediator. According to him, the fate of the mediator is that if he fails, everyone will say – you failed, if he succeeds – everyone will say – we succeeded.

“We will not seek support from anyone, this is not an agreement on the composition of a cabinet and joint management, we are speaking on behalf of the imperative to have a government to achieve the national tasks”, Ivanov is categorical, reminding that it must first be made clear to whom the president will give the mandate.

Ivanov stated on the occasion of his nomination by Boyko Borisov to be prime minister, that it was a political intrigue, because the leader of GERB was very well aware of the long-announced position of Democratic Bulgaria for a government without political leaders. According to him, this reaction follows the formula of „shooting down“ a politician from another party. And it is an expression of GERB’s fear that we will not go to the elections they want, and that they will finally have to answer clearly with „yes“ or „no“ to the question of the constitutional reform of the prosecutor’s office.

The co-chairman of Democratic Bulgaria is emphatic:

“Without constitutional reform of the prosecutor’s office, there will be no government. It is about restarting the management of the prosecutor’s office, not about some kind of mimicry. We have shown our seriousness to conduct a dialogue, but not to allow a compromise with the important tasks.”

He described the third-term technical government as made up of people who can be trusted politically and who can get the job done.

“The smaller question is whether there will be 121 people in the parliament on X-day, the more important one is how it will then work on Y-day. If we can’t make that effort, let’s just say to the voters – we are untenable,” said Ivanov on behalf of the parliamentaryly represented formations.

The model of a political declaration with management priorities, which „We continue the change“ proposed in the second mandate, is a sufficient tool to approach the third as well, Ivanov believes. He announced the readiness of his formation to have a constructive conversation with the BSP if it gets the third mandate, but again emphasized that there can be no retreat from key priorities.
