Investigation for conflict of interests has been initiated against the Bulgarian Minister of Science and Culture Krasimir Vulchev, announced the Bulgarian corruption watchdog.

The investigation was triggered by media reports from June 12 and June 14 this year. The reports claim that Marya Karbelyova, director of foundation “Prosveta”, is also godmother of Krasimir Vulchev and partner of his wife in the consulting agency “Bonafide Advisers”.

Foundation “Prosveta” is funded by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science and is the publisher of all schoolbooks for 11th grade for the school year 2020/2021, with the spendings being approved by Minister Vulchev

There is also information that the wife of the Minister is the owner of the PR agency “PR and Event Consulting” which has received 100 000 leva from the national Consumer Protection Commission, ran by her business partner Dimitur Margaritov.

The funds were used for the organization of events, media exposure and souvenir purchases for the Consumer Protection Commission and the European information center in Bulgaria.

Parts of a public contract for 35 000 leva and a list of witnesses have been obtained by the corruption watchdog.
