The ruling party rejected the Bulgarian Socialist Party’s proposal for changes to the Public Finance Act, which would effectively stop the vicious practice of distributing public funds by any prime minister. The left announced that their goal was for the money collected from the Bulgarian taxpayers to go back to them, and not to the drawers of the government. According to the BSP, they are currently being distributed to close companies and mayors to quell popular discontent, as well as to buy votes.

“Therefore, one of the things we will change after the end of Borissov is proper budget planning, spending through parliament and full transparency for every lev spent”, leftist leader Kornelia Ninova wrote on her Facebook account, adding:

“During ten years of rule, he forced the extremely vicious model to distribute at his own discretion outside the voted Budget Law about two billion levа a year, which gained popularity as the distribution from the “jeep window”. Usually to companies and municipalities close to the government or to quell discontent and buy votes. But this is the money collected from all taxpayers. Every lev collected by the people must reach the people, not the drawers of power.”
