The MPs almost unanimously supported the hearing of Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev, “BNR” reported. The proposal was submitted by the BSP under the pretext that the parliament could not stay away from such a heated debate. The proposal was adopted by 179 votes “in favor”.

MP Krum Zarkov expressed the doubts of the left-wing political forces that the publication of personal messages by the Prosecutor’s office on current investigations“ is not justified.

We have witnessed unprecedented cases of disclosure of data and circumstances, of showy arrests, raids and of statements by the Prosecutor General, which do not fit into our Criminal Procedure Code.”

The feeling is that the actions of the Prosecutor’s Office go beyond the procedural rules and the fundamental rights and freedoms enshrined in the Constitution.

Geshev is required to prepare a report on his activities as Prosecutor General from the beginning of his term, focusing on the months of January to July 2020. The presentation of the report would probably take place in September.

BSP MP Anton Kutev suggests that possible amendments to the Constitution are yet to be debated and whether the amendments they want to make can be made through legal changes instead of constitutional ones.
