The Ministry of Internal Affairs was damaged by BGN 81 million due to unemployment. Who is to blame?

The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office announced that a prosecutor’s file was opened in connection with a report filed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It contains allegations of a possible crime of a general nature committed by a former Minister of the Interior, objectified in an audit report.

The supervising prosecutor assigned the State Financial Inspection Agency to carry out an inspection in accordance with the Judiciary Act.

The financial inspection concluded with an opinion that the contracting authority under the Law on Public Procurement amended the contract without any circumstances being present, which violated the provision of Art. 116 of the Law on Public Procurement.

The supervising prosecutor came to the conclusion that there is evidence of a possibly committed crime of a general nature, and on the basis of the report and the report of the State Financial Inspection Agency, initiated pre-trial proceedings.

The investigation is being conducted into the fact that in the period from December 2022 to June 2023, an official committed misconduct, which resulted in significant damages to the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the amount of BGN 81 million.

In the criminal proceedings, there is no person who has been brought as an accused.

The investigation into the case continues, the Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office also specified.
