The Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association / BHRA / announced that their patience has run out and on September 8 they will protest in the capital’s National Assembly Square.

“Our patience is running out! Bulgarian business wants to work to feed their families! We are witnessing an imitation of measures that hit first those we have chosen to stay and develop in Bulgaria! And no compensation for the deprived of our constitutional right to work!”, wrote the Association on the social network Facebook.

According to industry representatives, the border has been crossed and they will defend their rights on the street. They note that owners and employees of restaurants and nightclubs have already set an example in many Bulgarian cities by going to the squares organized by the Association of Restaurants in Bulgaria (ARB), the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association and the Bulgarian Association of Restaurants (BAR). According to them, now is the turn of the big national protest in Sofia.

“The interim government has hit not only the hotel and restaurant industry, but also many other sectors! That is why many more branch organizations join us! The Confederation of Bus Carriers, the Association of the Gaming Industry, the Union of Private Theater Schools, the Union of Amateur Art Organizations, Entertainment Centers and Children’s Party Centers in Bulgaria, and the National Taxi Syndicate have already announced their participation in the protest.”

“Anyone who wants to defend their right to work and a normal existence is welcome. We are convinced that the number of organizations that will participate will grow with each passing day! On September 8, everyone in the National Assembly Square!”

At the same time, the Association of Restaurants in Bulgaria also commented on Facebook: „Happy holiday, Bulgarians! 136 years since the Unification of the Principality of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia! And in two days we will unite in Sofia to shout loudly: Freedom for business!!!”

Industry dissatisfaction has been provoked by proposed new restrictive measures to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic. So far, the three branch organizations have organized regional protests, before spreading a common position in which they strongly oppose the measures that will be introduced from September 7.
