Sofia city prosecutor’s office raised new and more serious criminal law charges against the 22-year old Kristian Nikolov who killed the Bulgarian journalist Milen Tsvetkov in a car incident on Easter Day. At the court hearing from earlier today, the prosecutor announced that the case is particularly aggravated because the drug test showed abuse of multiple substances, incl. Marijuana, amphetamine, cocaine, and bromazepam. According to the prosecutor, Nikolov has threatened multiple lives during the incident that occurred at a busy boulevard.

According to article 342, para. 3.b of the criminal code of Republic Bulgaria, such criminal acts are punishable by 15 years to lifetime in jail.

On April 19 at around 18:00 local time, after breaking the speed limit and failing to stop at a red light on the junction of “Henrik Isben” street and “Cherni Vruh” blvd, Kristian Nikolov crashed his SUV Audi Q7 into the vehicle of Milen Tsvetkov, killing the journalist on the spot.

A preliminary court ruling has been initiated. The forensic expertise determined multiple lethal traumas including fractures of 8 ribs, liver trauma, as well as cardiac tamponade.

Sofia city prosecutor’s office requested detention with imprisonment for the respondent.
