We support reducing the VAT not only on bread, but on all staple foods. This was commented by Minister of Agriculture Dr. Ivan Ivanov to journalists in Burgas. We remind you that he met with local grain producers. According to him, estimates show that this will lead to lower prices.

In this difficult situation, we need to think about both consumers and producers.“

A similar measure with a price ceiling for vegetables and fruits has been imposed in a number of EU member states such as Greece, Romania and Portugal, said Minister Ivanov. According to him, this guarantees food security and the costs that consumers incur.

The goal of the government and in particular of the Ministry of Agriculture is not to increase the price of bread, the Minister said and specified that this is why the intervention is made to buy bread wheat.

The Minister also revealed where the grain purchased by the state will be stored:

It was discussed a little while ago that over 90% of the grain is already with traders. We will release such conditions that we pay them for the storage of grain in their warehouses. There is enough stock in Bulgaria to ensure the availability of stored grain.“

The price at which it will be bought is BGN 570, Ivanov said.
