Journalist Maria Spirova commented on the murder of psychologist Ivan Vladimirov-Nav, spreading the following post on Facebook:

“Today we learned that all of Ivan Vladimirov-Nav’s neighbors, relatives and television viewers knew how many harassment complaints he filed against his would-be killer, Rumen Tonev.

Only the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not know.

The Ministry of the Interior could not find these complaints and did not give them to the prosecutor’s office. The prosecutor’s office doesn’t know why either.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Internal Affairs willingly reports that there are more complaints filed by Tonev against his future victim – one of them appears to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to be important enough to be sent to the prosecutor’s office – it includes „the hiring of three persons for the purpose of stealing paper for recycling’.

Well, literally until last night Tonev, fired from the traffic police in 2000, hitting and paralyzing the people living in his block with fear and running rampant on „Cherkovna“ with his „Baikal“ for about 20 years, was not known to the prosecutor’s office.

The murdered Ivan Vladimirov-Nav is known to the prosecution as a possible thief of old newspapers.

Setting aside the sheer absurdity of our reality for a moment, two things become clear at this point.

First, according to the information available so far from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and interviews with Tonev’s accomplices, he sounds like a person who is clearly not mentally healthy. This has been known to the neighborhood and the neighborhood police for many years.

His gun permit, however, was valid. It expired in April.

How did this work happen, MIA? Where are this guy’s psych tests? Who are your employees who gave him carte blanche to walk around with a gun? How will they be penalized?

Secondly, the complaints against Tonev have been effectively suppressed and are probably already in the process of magical evaporation under the pressure of the desire to obscure the increasingly acute suspicion that the police station was waiting for Vladimirov-Nav to perish and leave them to be found. Whether they acted simply out of supreme negligence, cynicism and contempt for their duty, or as a gesture of perverse loyalty to their fired (!) colleague, we will never know, because there can be no transparent and fair investigation.

As an epilogue, this morning on BTV appeared an arrogant cop sitting in his car, who tried his best to explain that literally everyone except the police is to blame: he simply belittled public anxiety and anger, called some of the claims of Tonev’s victims „fabrications“ , described gun permit psychotests as „stupid questions“ … then still blasted gun owners as „wronged.“ Finally, he stated that the police are not omnipotent.

On the contrary.

It is omnipotent – and that is the problem.

The police in our country can, if they feel like it, kick chained youths behind the Columns. He might throw another of our fellow citizens for a punching bag and finally for a hunting trophy shot from an ambush of a deranged former ranger. And he can appear on prime time and snidely send the hell out of us after every such instance.

What do you call an institution full of armed men and women where no one ever seeks or takes responsibility? Whose own arbitrariness is matched only by the arbitrariness she allows her associated „God’s chosen“ criminals? And there is nothing anyone can do to get justice for the injured and bereaved?

All-powerful is called.

And it is like that because our country is always weak.”
