The Deputy Prime Minister and leader of IMRO Krassimir Karakachanov commented that whoever comes to power after the elections, Bulgaria’s position on the European integration of the Republic of Northern Macedonia will not change. The expectations of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev and other senior politicians from Macedonia are that the dispute with Sofia will be resolved at the end of March, after the parliamentary elections in our country. Karakachanov specify:

„Whatever the political configuration in Bulgaria after the elections, whether the government will be dominated by GERB or the BSP, whether IMRO will participate in the government or not, I am convinced that there will be no Bulgarian party that will betray the Bulgarian national interests. And this is nonsense in Skopje. „

The Deputy Prime Minister explained that the Macedonian leaders could not cunningly exert external pressure on Bulgaria. He said he did not accept their anti-Bulgarian policy, which they have been pursuing for decades. The leader of IMRO was adamant that it is better to have an honest, respectable and normal dialogue, and according to him they are trying to achieve something by outwitting. He said Skopje would not succeed with this tactic because “they are knocking on the door of the European Union and we must open it”. Karakachanov added:

“They can’t lie to us. They can choose to cheat and imitate activity for another 20 years, or we can sit down and resolve these contentious issues within half a year or a year or two.”
