There are currently no working regulators in Bulgaria. This was announced to “BNT” by MP from „Democratic Bulgaria“ Ivaylo Mirchev. He stressed that whether the members of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission were nine or five did not matter.

Mirchev explained that now there were people in the EWRC, as well as in BEH and the Electricity System Operator, who belong to certain political forces and therefore they protect specific interests. According to him, the European Commission is aware of all this.

Mirchev stressed that the goal of everything that was happening now was to have really working regulators. He was adamant that the arguments of GERB and MRF did not hold. Regarding the specific candidacies, the MP said that he did not know if they were the most suitable. They wanted to see their priorities, but there was no reason not to support them.

Mirchev also said that if Ivan Geshev and Sotir Tsatsarov had done their job, what we see in the energy sector would not have happened. On the contrary. The Prosecutor’s Office would have already filed charges. Instead, there was an umbrella over certain people.

The MP also believes that there should be a body that monitors how municipalities implement public procurement. He gave the example with the cheap ice lighting that is installed. According to him, this is due to the fact that an attempt is made to steal something from every public procurement.

Mirchev also revealed that the moratorium on electricity and water prices should not take effect until March. The plans were for him to drop out in February because it was a bad and even terrible decision. Mirchev also announced that until July 1, there would certainly be no change in prices on the regulated market.
