„A Bulgarian citizen and journalist is being persecuted for daring to tell the truth. This is an outrageous and dangerous precedent. In Russia, law has no meaning, it is an instrument of torture. By the way – as in our country, still.“

That’s what Nikolay Hadzhigenov, a lawyer and part of the „Stand Up.BG! We are coming!“, civil movement, said after the Kremlin declared Hristo Grozev wanted. In his words, Russia has no legal grounds to demand the detention of a Bulgarian journalist.

„The previous regular government expelled 70 people for spying activities. They did not dare to expel the ambassador of the Russian Federation in our country Eleonora Mitrofanova. And she is the one who led all these people. The Prosecutor’s Office should do something, but it doesn’t try – because it defends the oligarchs and all the others, mostly Soviet interests,“, Hadzhigenov told „bTV“. According to him, Mitrofanova should be expelled today, she has given countless reasons for this. He noted:

„In the Russian embassy in our country we have Zhirinovsky in a skirt. Putin is not just killing Ukrainians. He’s imposing a horrific, Stalin-type dictatorship. Hristo Grozev is being persecuted for telling the truth. A Bulgarian journalist is being put in danger. I highly doubt anyone anyone has the courage to expel Mitrofanova, you can’t expel 70 people for spying and let their chief go.“

The lawyer is adamant that Bulgaria must show that it „protects every single Bulgarian citizen“.
