The Bulgarian Government announced a State of Emergency in Bulgaria because of the Coronavirus. It will last for one month – from March 13 to April 13 and was proclaimed on the basis of Article 84 of the Constitution. The only inalienable rights remain the right to life and that not to be subjected to torture. The remaining changes to the legislation will continue until the emergency situation is lifted.

In the case of the coronavirus the government plans to review whether the state of emergency is operating at least two weeks after its announcement.

The measures were adopted unanimously in the plenary. So far, on the basis of more than 1 400 test subjects in Bulgaria, 23 of the people are positive for COVID-19.  For comparison yesterday they were 16, including one death woman.

Yesterday the Prime Minister of the country Boyko Borisov stressed that so far we are talking about non-compliance with discipline and that stricter rules and sanctions are needed. He suggested closing schools, cancelling events, banning travels from Bulgaria to other countries and deciding which citizens we will not accept in the country.

The finance minister said that if we go this way and the budget does not generate revenue, then we will have losses of BGN 3 billion minimum.
