Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov says EU funds are the engine that helps our country moves faster. The meeting is a part of consultations that take place before the upcoming extraordinary summit on 20-21 February this year.

Borisov and Michel has discussed the new Multiannual Financial Framework for the period 2021-2027. The Bulgarian Prime Minister underlined that our country is a constructive partner in the negotiations on the issue. He also said that an agreement is badly needed for the European citizens.

Borisov declared that the Cohesion and Common Agricultural Policy already have proven and the results are already visible.

The Prime Minister emphasized the benefits of overcoming inequalities between the regions and gave an advice that the development ot no one has to fall behind others.

Concerning the achievement of climate neutrality, Bulgaria does not want to associate this package with cohesion, because in the country the goals of the two instruments are completely different. Borisov said that Bulgaria pays equal attention to both new and old priorities.

He emphasised that EU budget must therefore reinforce that it has been achieved so far and at the same time to meet the new challenges which is on the EU table.

An important topic of the conversation was the integration of the Western Balkan countries. Borisov welcomed the active support of the European institutions on this issue. At the same time, the Bulgarian Prime Minister stressed that this is a bilateral process in which all parties have to fulfill their commitments.

Bulgarian Prime Minister said the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU gives a big step that will give them prosperity and peace.
