Hundreds of citizens, public figures, patriots, military personnel and representatives of various institutions took part in cleaning up the damage caused by the floods in Karlovo. This morning, caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev visited one of the most affected villages – Karavelovo, where he promised the victims that money would be allocated and construction materials would be provided to them to rebuild their homes.

In the meantime, people from all over Bulgaria are uniting to help whoever they can, and various municipalities in our country are organizing donation campaigns to help the victims. Unfortunately, the floods turned out to be a great PR opportunity for political parties at the start of the election campaign. In the most affected villages – Bogdan, Karavelovo and Slatina, representatives from all political forces in our country came to help. They thoroughly document their every action, using for their own benefits, not to that of the citizens.

One of these politicians is the parliamentary candidate from the „Democratic Bulgaria-Unification“ coalition, Teodor Stoychev Mihailov, who is currently in Karavelovo. He used the occasion of today’s holiday – the Unification of Eastern Rumelia with the Principality of Bulgaria – by posting a photo on Facebook with Elisaveta Belobradova (also a deputy candidate from the same party). It shows the two of them smiling broadly, and the comment above the shot read:

„We are in mud baths. Happy holiday!“

Very quickly, the photo gathered dozens of angry comments. Facebook users are adamant that on this day  it is unacceptable to use people’s grief to make a political campaign. According to them, Mihailov’s words „we are in mud baths“ are extremely inappropriate and a mockery of the victims. Shortly thereafter, the entire post was removed.

More than once, Teodor Mihailov has been outraged by users on social networks who deleted their posts and people who used events or disasters for political PR. However, today, on our national holiday, he is doing exactly what he ridicules. Here the question arises, how do Mihailov and „Democratic Bulgaria“ differ from the representatives of GERB, MRF, „Vazrazhdane“, who they criticize the most, since they too use the tragedy to earn dividends?
