Employees of the state-owned company “TEREM – Khan Krum” Ltd. in Targovishte sent a protest declaration to the President, the Speaker of Parliament, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence. They demand immediate payment of wages due and strongly demand clarity on the future of the company, which is part of the national security system.
The document, signed by the employees’ unions, says the enterprise has been “on the brink of survival” since August 2024, and workers’ protests in September, January and March have not produced any real results.
“We met Christmas and Easter without wages. We are going to be without wages for the day of bravery and the holiday of the Bulgarian army – May 6”, the collective said.
The protest actions started on 26 March 2025 and will continue without interruption until the institutions take decisive measures. The workers recall that the change of the governor has not led to improvement, but has even deepened the crisis.
They also criticize the empty promises of the representatives of the Ministry of Defence, in particular Deputy Minister Zapryanov, which have not materialized into solutions.
“If the government does not react, we are ready for more radical steps – including the construction of a tent camp in front of the Ministry of Defence and the Council of Ministers, within the law”, the officials warn.
The company, with a history of more than 60 years, is one of the pillars of the country’s military industry. According to the protesters, the neglect of the crisis at TEREM – Targovishte is a blow to national security, and the inaction of the institutions risks the termination of production activities in the near future.
