Today, BSP (Bulgarian Socialist Party) members directly elect the chairman of their party. This is the first time in the history of a political force. And for the vote to be valid, at least half of the members must take part.

The municipal and regional councils of the BSP have previously prepared the electoral lists on which to vote. They have been handed over to commissions, which have kept them to this day.

We remind you that in the beginning 55 candidates were nominated. Shortly afterwards, only five of them declared to the Central Commission that they would take part in the race – Cornelia Ninova, Kiril Dobrev, Georgi Todorov, Krassimir Yankov and Valeri Zhablyanov. The latter two resigned on the pretext that they were doing so in protest against the current leadership and accused him of manipulating the election process. Shortly afterwards, Todorov also withdrew, pointing out that there was no equality between the candidates.

The election started today at 07:00 and will continue until 19:00. Anyone wishing to exercise their right to vote must present an identity card.

There are 1140 stationary, mobile and mobile sections in the country. The latter will move on a schedule between the smaller settlements.

After the end of the election day, the results will be detected three times by The Central Commission for Conducting the Election of Chairman. The goal is to avoid all mistakes and opportunities for speculation. Within 48 hours, the Central Commission must announce the result of the direct election of the BSP chairman.
